There’s a story our Elders share about how Raven got his colour. Long ago, Raven was white and watched the other birds painting themselves in bright, beautiful colours. Wanting the same, he asked them to paint him too. Each time they did, he looked at himself and said he still felt funny, so they added more and more colour, but it never felt right. Finally, they covered him in black tar, and Raven said, now I really look funny. That’s why today Raven is black, but when the light hits just right, you can still see the other colours shining through.
