The name Birch and Moon carries meaning and stories — in many northern Indigenous communities, birch bark was used to line cradles or make baby carriers, offering protection, warmth, and connection tothe land.

Our Hide Tanner Salve is a special skin care product made to protect and restore hardworking hands. It absorbs to heal cracks and dryness, while creating a shield against the elements. Every tin carries the gifts of the land while honouring the work that our hands do.
Each ingredient was chosen with purpose. Olive oil softens and protects the skin. Dandelion, a plant that grows strong wherever it takes root, brings cleansing and renewal. Poplar buds carry natural oils that ease soreness, reduce swelling, and help the skin recover from irritation. Beeswax locks in moisture, while vitamin E and shea butter restore and strengthen.
This salve was created with hide tanners in mind, whose hands carry the responsibility of transforming hides into beautiful leather, continuing a practice handed down through generations. Tanning hides takes strength and patience and the hands that do this work often show the wear of that responsibility. This salve is a way to give back to those who are working to keep our traditions alive. With this natural salve, we are reminded that our traditions and our daily work are all connected.
Just as hides are softened and made useful by the tanner’s skill, our skin is cared for and nurtured by the gifts of the land. The work of our hands is what builds, creates, and sustains us. By caring for ourselves, we strengthen our ability to care for our community.

These pins help us support and promote Pride events for the Two-Spirit, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Queer, Intersex, and Asexual (2SLGBTQIA+) in our small northern community in central Yukon.
